SANDF MSDS 2027 Intake – Applications Now Open

The SANDF has opened applications for its Military Skills Development System (MSDS) 2027 intake. This programme is designed to recruit and train young South Africans for military service over a two-year period.


 

What the MSDS Programme 2027 intake Is

The MSDS is a structured entry programme into the South African military. Successful candidates sign a two-year contract. 

In the first year, recruits complete basic military training and job-specific training for the arm of service they choose, such as the Army, Air Force, Navy or Military Health Service.

 In the second year, they are placed in units where they apply their training and gain practical experience. You may also look at Colleges That Offer Learnerships & Accredited Courses if you want more opportunities.


 

Who Can Apply for  2027 SANDF MSDS intake

To be eligible for the 2027 MSDS intake, applicants must meet specific criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen (dual citizenship is not allowed).

  • Be between 18 and 22 years old (if you have just Grade 12).

  • Graduates may apply up to 26 years old.

  • Must have completed or be completing Grade 12.

  • Must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 18 (excluding Life Orientation).

  • Must have no serious criminal record or pending cases.

  • Must meet the SANDF’s medical and fitness standards.

  • No visible tattoos when wearing the military uniform.

  • For some specialised careers (e.g., aviation or technical engineering), passed Mathematics and Physical Science are required.

Required Documents to Apply for  2027 MSDS intake

When submitting an application, you must attach:

  • A completed SANDF application form.

  • An updated CV.

  • A certified copy of your South African ID.

  • A certified copy of your Matric certificate or recent results (2025 results accepted).

  • Certified copies of any tertiary qualifications, if applicable.


 

How to Apply for SANDF MSDS intake 2027

There is no online application system for the SANDF MSDS intake. To apply:

  1. Collect the official application form from a SANDF recruitment office or download it from official sources when available.

  1. Complete the form carefully, making sure all details are correct.

  2. Submit your application by hand or through postal delivery to the nearest SANDF recruitment office.

Applications were officially opened on 16 February 2026 and are set to close on 27 March 2026.

 

What Happens After You Apply

Once your application is received, SANDF reviews it. Successful applicants are invited to attend selection panels and undergo medical, psychometric, and fitness evaluations. If you are not contacted by 31 December 2027, your application is considered unsuccessful.

What You Can Expect

If selected, you will start with basic training designed to build physical readiness, discipline, and foundational military skills. After that, training becomes specialised based on your chosen area of service.

 This experience can lead to career growth within the SANDF or useful skills for civilian careers.
