FASSET Outstanding Study Debt Repayment Programme 2026

So, you’ve graduated, got your qualification, and maybe even started working — but that outstanding student debt? Yeah, it’s still there, hanging around like an unpaid subscription you forgot to cancel.

Well, here’s something that might just help you breathe a little easier. The Finance and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training Authority (FASSET) has officially opened applications for its Outstanding Study Debt Repayment Programme for the 2025 & 2026 period

It’s basically designed to help graduates who studied in fields related to the FAS sector — think accounting, finance, auditing, business admin, and all that good stuff — to finally settle what’s left of their study loans.

Who Can Apply for FASSET Study Debt Repayment Programme?

If you’re currently working in the FASSET sector, or you’re part of a professional body or NGO linked to it, you’re already in the right lane. You just need to have completed a qualification that’s relevant to the finance and accounting space — not halfway, not pending, completed.

And for those who aren’t working yet, there’s still hope. As long as you finished a qualification that falls under FASSET’s scope, you can apply too.

  • You must’ve completed a qualification that’s relevant to the Finance and Accounting Services (FAS) sector.

  • Employed applicants earning R660,000 or less per year qualify.

  • Unemployed applicants can also apply — as long as their household income is R1 million or less per year.

  • Your qualification must be from a public higher education institution, and preferably one tied to NSFAS or a recognised funding scheme.

How FASSET Outstanding Study Debt Repayment Programme Can Help You

This programme focuses on paying off what you owe for your studies — the outstanding balance from NSFAS or any public higher learning institution where you completed your qualification. The settlement amount is capped at R80,000 per applicant per year, and approvals are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

It’s not a full debt write-off for everyone, but it’s helpful for graduates who still have remaining study balances that prevent them from moving forward or collecting their certificates.

Documents Required to Apply for Student Debt Relief

Well, before you rush to apply, make sure you’ve got your documents sorted. FASSET requires all compulsory docs in PDF format — things like your proof of income, qualification, ID, and evidence of your outstanding loan. If you miss any, they’ll just decline your application.

And, oh — if you don’t hear back from them within three months, it’s safe to assume your application wasn’t successful.

Final thoughts

Look, clearing student debt isn’t glamorous, but it’s honestly one of those things that can change your financial life completely. If you’re in the FASSET field and your debt has been holding you back, this is worth a try.

Other programmes like ISFAP (Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme) are great too, especially if you’re still studying — they cover tuition, meals, and even mentoring for “missing middle” students.

But FASSET’s programme? It’s one of the few that actually looks back to help graduates who’ve already crossed the finish line but still have bills chasing them.
