Mpumalanga College of Nursing Applications 2027 Now Open – Requirements, Closing Date & How to Apply

If you’ve been looking for nursing colleges open for 2027 applications in South Africa, the Mpumalanga College of Nursing is currently accepting applications for its 2027 three-year Diploma in Nursing.

This is an important one to look at if you live in Mpumalanga because the intake is specifically aimed at Mpumalanga residents, and the application process is done online. The current closing date is 2 October 2026, so there is still time to apply, but I would not leave it until the last few days.

More importantly, this isn't a short nursing course or a general healthcare certificate. You're applying for a three-year Diploma in Nursing, with theoretical training as well as Work Integrated Learning as part of the programme.

Mpumalanga College of Nursing 2027 Applications

The Mpumalanga College of Nursing, under the Mpumalanga Department of Health, has opened applications for the 2027 intake of the Diploma in Nursing (R.171).

The application is open to qualifying applicants between 18 and 36 years old. You must also be a South African citizen and a resident of Mpumalanga. 

The current closing date is:

2 October 2026

One thing I would point out here is that this is a provincial nursing intake, so don't assume that simply having Matric means you can apply from anywhere in South Africa. Mpumalanga residency is one of the requirements.

What Can You Study at Mpumalanga College of Nursing?

For the current 2027 intake, the advertised programme is the three-year Diploma in Nursing.

The programme isn't simply classroom-based. Successful applicants are required to attend theoretical lectures and complete a Work Integrated Learning component, where the learning moves into healthcare settings. 

That distinction is worth understanding because people sometimes see "nursing college" and assume they're applying for a six-month caregiver course or another short healthcare programme.

That's not what this intake is.

You're applying for a three-year nursing diploma, so you need to be prepared for a much longer commitment involving academic study and clinical learning.

Mpumalanga College of Nursing Requirements for 2027

This is probably the section you should read carefully before starting the application.

According to the current 2027 intake information, applicants need to meet the following academic requirements:

• A National Senior Certificate (NSC) that allows admission to Diploma or Degree studies

• English: at least Level 4

• Life Sciences/Biology: at least Level 4

• Mathematics: at least Level 3, or Mathematics Literacy: at least Level 5

• One of Physical Sciences, Agriculture or Geography: at least Level 3

• Minimum APS of 23, excluding Life Orientation

• Be between 18 and 36 years old

• Be a South African citizen

• Be a resident of Mpumalanga Province 

So, for example, if you have Mathematics Literacy instead of Mathematics, that doesn't automatically disqualify you. The current requirements allow Mathematical Literacy at Level 5 or higher. The important thing is that you also meet the other subject and APS requirements. 

And don't make the mistake of looking only at your APS score. You can have the required APS and still fail to meet one of the individual subject requirements.

What Documents Do You Need?

Before you start the online application, get your documents together.

The College's current application FAQ says applicants may need to upload:

• Certified copy of your ID

• Certified copy of your Matric certificate

• Proof of residence, where required

• Marriage certificate, where applicable

• Any additional documents requested during the application process

I'd recommend having clear electronic copies ready before you begin. There's nothing more frustrating than getting halfway through an application and then discovering that you don't have one of the required documents available.

Also, make sure your proof of residence actually establishes that you live in Mpumalanga, because provincial residency matters for this intake.

The College's application FAQ says applicants need to complete the application form and upload the required supporting documents before submitting it. Once successfully submitted, you should receive a confirmation message and application reference number. Keep that number somewhere safe.

You can also save an application and return to complete it before the closing date. Once submitted, however, some information may no longer be editable, so check everything properly before pressing submit. 

And please don't just take a screenshot of the final page and forget about it. Keep your application reference number because you'll need it if you have to ask Student Affairs about your application.

What Happens After You Apply?

This is something applicants often don't think about.

Submitting an application doesn't mean you've been accepted.

The College's application system has different stages, including:

Draft → Submitted → Under Review → Shortlisted → Provisionally Accepted → Accepted

There is also an Unsuccessful status. 

So if your application says "Submitted", that simply means the College has received it. It doesn't mean you've secured a place.

If you're shortlisted or provisionally accepted, you should follow the instructions provided through the official application system and communication channels.

What Happens During the Three Years?

The programme combines theoretical education with Work Integrated Learning. That means you're not spending the entire three years sitting in a classroom.

The College's information says successful applicants will attend lectures for theoretical knowledge and complete a Work Integrated Learning component.

The College also has an online learning system where students can access course materials and assignments, alongside its student portal and library systems. 

So there is an online component to the College's broader student system, but don't confuse that with the nursing diploma being an entirely online qualification. Nursing education includes clinical learning, and this intake specifically includes Work Integrated Learning.

If you're having problems with the application, don't pay someone on Facebook or WhatsApp to "fix" it for you.

Applications are online, so you don't need to travel to a campus simply to submit the application. 

I'd suggest applying well before the deadline if you already meet the requirements. Waiting until 2 October doesn't give you anything extra, and if you run into a document or technical problem at the last minute, you have very little room to fix it.
