Standard Bank Learnerships 2026: Internal Auditing and Data Science Applications Open

Standard Bank has opened applications for two specialist learnership programmes aimed at helping unemployed South African graduates launch careers in Internal Auditing and Data Science

Both programmes run for 24 months, offer a monthly stipend of R15,000 plus student medical aid, and lead to nationally recognised Occupational Certificates.

I think what makes these opportunities stand out is that they're not general banking learnerships.

They're designed for graduates who already have qualifications in fields like finance, auditing, IT, engineering, mathematics and data science, and want to specialise in careers that are becoming increasingly important across the financial sector.

If you've been searching for a graduate opportunity that combines professional development with a recognised qualification, these Standard Bank learnerships are definitely worth considering.

Which Standard Bank Learnerships Are Open?

Standard Bank is currently recruiting for the following programmes:

  • Occupational Certificate: Internal Auditor

  • Occupational Certificate: Data Science Practitioner

Both programmes are based in Johannesburg and will commence on 1 October 2026.

Although they focus on different career paths, they share the same duration, employment conditions and eligibility requirements.

Standard Bank Internal Auditing Learnership

The Internal Auditing Learnership is intended for graduates who enjoy analysing information, solving business problems and helping organisations improve the way they operate.

During the programme, learners support audit teams by reviewing business processes, examining financial and operational controls, identifying areas that could be improved and preparing evidence that supports audit findings.

You'll also learn how internal audits contribute to better governance, risk management and compliance within one of Africa's largest banking groups.

One thing I like about this programme is that it introduces graduates to the wider role of internal auditing.

It isn't only about checking numbers. Internal auditors help organisations improve efficiency, reduce operational risks and strengthen internal controls across different business units.

By the end of the learnership, successful participants will receive an Occupational Certificate: Internal Auditor.

Start Date:1 October 2026

Duration: 24 Months

Learner Stipend: R15 000 per month plus Student Medical Aid

Qualification at end of programme: Occupational Certificate: Internal Auditor

Location: 5 Simmonds Street, Johannesburg and/or 30 Baker Street, Rosebank

Standard Bank Data Science Learnership

The Data Science Learnership is aimed at graduates who enjoy working with data, technology and analytical problem-solving.

As part of the programme, learners assist with analysing datasets, identifying trends, supporting audit-related data analysis and producing evidence-based insights that help teams make informed business decisions. You'll also gain experience organising data, maintaining analytical outputs and working within Standard Bank's data governance standards.

Based on the programme outline, the emphasis is on learning how data can be used to improve decision-making rather than simply writing code.

That makes it a great starting point for graduates who want to build careers in analytics, business intelligence or data science within the financial industry.

Successful learners will complete the Occupational Certificate: Data Science Practitioner.
