Department of Tourism Internships For Unemployed Graduates

The Department of Tourism has always been a big entry point for young South Africans who want to work in government, gain exposure in public service, or build a career in tourism, hospitality, communications, finance, or admin. Every year, thousands of graduates wait for their internship intake — and for 2026, the interest is even bigger.

About The Tourism Internship 2026/2028

This isn’t just any internship — it’s a fully structured programme that includes:

  • A monthly stipend to support you throughout the internship.
  • Hands-on experience in various divisions of the Department of Tourism.
  • Opportunities for skills development and mentorship.
  • Exposure to South Africa’s tourism policies and programmes.

The Tourism Internship runs for two full years, and interns work directly inside different branches of the Department.

You’re not just observing things from the outside; you’re part of internal teams, supporting admin, research, public engagement, ICT functions, finance divisions, project management units, and more.

It’s one of the few government programmes that exposes youth to how national departments actually operate behind the scenes.
