01. Forklifting

Mostly preferred by men, there are many courses in forklifting especially in urban areas such as Johannesburg. Remember, in cities the most common job any regular person can find has to do with something that involves construction. Not to say women aren't mostly within this industry yet there are a few.

Where can you work with a forklifting qualification?

Construction companies:

You can work as a forklifter and expect to earn a minimum salary of R7500 to R15000 a month. The cost for the qualification usually depends on the provider.

Eg: if you decide to enroll to a course provided by an accredited provider in town expect to pay around R2000, then in townships it can be fairly low.

Retail Companies:

You can work in companies like shoprite, picknpay or boxer including other major retail companies or stores. Usually you would be responsible for offloading incoming stock using a forklifter and packing them into designated areas.

What’s the salary?  Well a fair monthly salary of R8000 a month or more. Compared to construction companies it may be less, because of the intensive work and working conditions are highly different from construction.

Private Companies:

Most private companies that are recruiting people with a forklifting qualification are in the manufacturing sector, eg, a company that produces or manufactures canned food, may want a forklifter for being responsible for delivering stock to other companies.
